A marketing manager's incomplete guide to sidewalk signs

I love sidewalk signs! They are the purest from of marketing. Write a good one you can literally motivate customers to walk in you door. Where I live in Brooklyn I walk by many every day. Here are some quick marketing reviews of several I've passed recently.

"Eat here or we'll both starve"? Bad marketing idea. Customers  are concerned with their needs, not yours. Any restaurant owner posting this sign deserves to starve.

Valentine’s day is for meat lovers? Really? Even in front of a butchers shop?

This Valentine's Day sign in front of a Smith Street bar will get a laugh...but it is not very romantic. Who walks into a bar with a sign like this on valentines day?

I walked by this sign during the hours of the live broadcast of the Super Bowl. At the time many Brooklyn bars in my neighborhood were packed. The restaurant displaying this sign was completely empty. Bad sidewalk sign karma?

Here are some others...

A more sophisticated approach?

What do you think? Have you seen any cool sidewalk signs?
